Why your workspace matters

How environment ignites creativity for marketers.

If you work in marketing, you know how important creativity is, not just for campaigns, but for problem-solving, strategy, and staying ahead of the curve.

But here’s the bit we often overlook: creativity doesn’t happen in a vacuum. It needs the right conditions to thrive. And more often than not, that starts with your environment.

For me, that’s meant being part of the community at 1 Mill Street for the past five years, and I can honestly say it’s shaped how I think, create, and grow.

Creativity needs more than just Wi-Fi

We’re all used to thinking about tools, tactics, and frameworks. But creativity isn’t just about systems; it’s about space. And not just physical space, but mental space too.

When your environment is dull, isolating, or just plain uninspiring, it becomes that much harder to connect the dots in new ways. On the flip side, when you’re in a space that’s energetic, welcoming, and full of interesting people doing interesting things, new ideas come more naturally.

What makes 1 Mill Street different

Mill Street isn’t just somewhere I go to work. It’s where I’ve had some of my best ideas, met some of the most talented people I know, and stayed energised when everything else felt a bit flat.

The building is full of people from all sorts of industries: founders, freelancers, creatives, marketers, filmmakers. There’s a buzz to it. It’s the kind of place where a chat in the kitchen can turn into a new project or a fresh perspective.

And it’s not just about people. Natural light, open spaces, proper coffee, flexible meeting rooms, vibin’ music when you need it (depends who’s DJ at the time, Catherine Callicott) and chatting to someone who’s doing something completely different to you, all adds up.

Don’t believe me… believe them!

Mill Street instantly started ticking boxes for me personally and for my business. I was able to work flexibly as a hot desker at first and then to expand to fixed desks with storage and a sign over our virtual door. Mill Street helped me to attract, recruit and retain staff who found the place enjoyable to come to work, and fulfilling both professionally and personally.

The collaboration here has been a huge highlight. We’ve already worked with a few other members on different projects, and there’s a real sense of community that makes it easy to share ideas and connect with others. The social side of Mill Street is just as strong; there’s always something happening. The recent BBQ was a definite highlight for us: great food, relaxed atmosphere, and a fun way to catch up with everyone outside of work mode.

I’ve been a member of 1 Mill Street since it opened, and it’s played a huge role in my personal and professional journey. It’s where I’ve built real connections, grown my business, and found a supportive community. Most days, I’m hot-desking on the main floor, where I’ve met some brilliant freelancers, founders, and creatives. The 1 Mill Street team is welcoming and helpful, and they really make it feel like home. Everything you need to work well is here: fast Wi-Fi, top-notch meeting rooms and podcast studios, plus a café with great food and coffee. What really sets 1 Mill Street apart is the vibe and community. Whether you’re flying solo or building something big, it’s a brilliant place to be.

Why your environment may be holding you back

Creativity doesn’t just happen. It’s shaped by the people, energy, and environment around you. If you’re a marketer, a creative, or just someone who feels like they’ve lost a bit of their spark, it might be time to rethink where you’re working.

1 Mill Street has made a massive difference to me, and I’d encourage anyone looking for a creative, welcoming, and energising space to come and experience it for themselves. Because sometimes, the best way to get unstuck isn’t another brainstorm or brief. It’s a change of scenery, and a reminder that inspiration often lives just outside your usual routine.

Come and experience it for yourself.
